Monsoon Session 2023: Rajya Sabha proceedings on Monday (July 24) saw a heated argument between Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, following which the proceedings of the Upper House were adjourned till noon. Vice President Dhankhar told Derek O’Brien that he was insulting the chair.
Brian demands to name the party
On this, TMC MP Derek O’Brien demanded the Chairman to mention the name of the party along with the MPs who gave the notice, as he did while reading the notice under 176. The Speaker asked Derek O’Brien to take his seat but Brian continued to protest.
Jagdeep Dhankhar got angry on not listening despite the refusal and he addressed Derek O’Brien and said, you are challenging the posture. Seeing the uproar, Dhankhar adjourned the Rajya Sabha proceedings till 12 noon.
Sanjay Singh suspended for the entire season
As soon as the Speaker took the name of Sanjay Singh, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal presented the proposal to suspend the AAP MP in front of the chair. Goyal said, Sanjay Singh should be suspended for the entire session.
Dhankhar put the proposal before the House for approval and said that Sanjay Singh is suspended for the rest of the monsoon session of Parliament. After this the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned once again.
