Manipur Violence: Violence continues in Manipur. Meanwhile, a woman was shot dead outside a school by unidentified gunmen in Imphal West district on Thursday (July 5). The incident took place at Kwakithel Mayai Koibi under Lamphel police station.
A day before, classes from first to eighth have started in the state, which were closed for two months due to violence. News agency PTI quoted officials as saying that the woman had gone near the school for some work, but had nothing to do with the school.
Violence continues in Manipur
Intermittent gunfire was heard in a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Thursday morning. Some people attacked the villagers with automatic guns, but the security forces averted the clash. Sources gave this information.
PTI quoted sources as saying that the incident took place near Pheleng village at around 3.40 pm on Wednesday afternoon. Armed groups from the surrounding areas had gathered in the area which escalated the tension.
He said that around 1,000 to 1,500 women had blocked roads to prevent additional forces from reaching the area, but the situation was brought under control after the deployment of Assam Rifles personnel in the area.
A large number of Kuki community people demonstrated in Churachandpur on Wednesday. He took out a rally from Public Ground to Tuibong Peace Ground. Sources said that around 4,000 people participated in the rally. Most of them were dressed in warrior clothes. The rally concluded at 7 pm on Wednesday in which no untoward incident was reported.
When did the violence start in Manipur?
According to PTI, the Meitei community has taken out ‘tribal solidarity rallies’ in hill districts to protest their demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. After this, caste violence broke out in the state on May 3, in which more than 100 people have lost their lives so far. Over 3,000 people were injured in the violence.
