Maharashtra Politics: It has been a full year today that there was an earthquake in the politics of Maharashtra. On June 20 last year, Eknath Shinde and 40 Shiv Sena MLAs rebelled together and toppled Uddhav Thackeray’s government.

Now on completion of one year of this rebellion, protests and accusations and counter-accusations were seen in Maharashtra on Tuesday (June 20). On the one hand, the Uddhav Thackeray faction celebrated Gaddar Diwas, while Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction celebrated Self-Respect Day.

After the rebellion of Eknath Shinde, the then government of Uddhav Thackeray also fell in the state. Regarding this, the Thackeray faction today vented its anger against the rebel MLAs. At the same time, the ruling group led by Shinde celebrated ‘Self-Respect Day’ and mentioned the legacy of the party’s founder Bal Thackeray. Different programs were organized in Mumbai regarding this and both the groups made several allegations against each other.

Uddhav Thackeray had to leave the post of CM

Due to the rebellion of Eknath Shinde, there was a ruckus in the politics of Maharashtra at that time. Uddhav Thackeray had to lose the CM post and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)-led government was forced to relinquish power. MVA consisted of three parties Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has written a letter to the United Nations urging it to declare June 20 as ‘World Traitor Day’.

‘Gaddar Divas’ protests took place at these places

Eknath Shinde rebelled and joined hands with the BJP and later Shinde was made the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Police said that Shiv Sena (UBT) workers today held ‘Gaddar Divas’ demonstrations in other cities including Sangli, Dhule, Ahmednagar, Nashik, Beed, Latur, Pune, Kolhapur and Nagpur. The Shinde-led Shiv Sena hit back at the Thackeray camp over his ‘traitor’ jibe and accused it of disrespecting the mandate for the 2019 assembly elections.

What did the minister of Shinde faction say?

According to news agency PTI, Shiv Sena minister Uday Samant said that those who betrayed the mandate are celebrating ‘Traitor’s Day’. He was referring to the Thackeray-led party which had fought the 2019 assembly elections in alliance with the BJP and later joined hands with the Congress and the NCP.
