Agartala, July 05: After seizures of contraband drugs worth Rs. 14 crore and around 20,000 bottles of phensedyl, Tripura Police on Wednesday seized a huge consignment of ganja from Churaibari in North Tripura district.
It was the third successful drive of Tripura Police in the last few days towards the government’s goal of building drugs-free state.
During the anti-narcotics drive, Churaibari police raided a container and found 337 kg ganja (cannabis) inside it. One person was also detained in this connection.
According to sources, an international chain of drugs smugglers is carrying out this illegal business in the state with the help of local agents.
Despite strong surveillance from police and other security agencies, the smugglers are transporting the consignments of such contraband items in various modes. Apart from by road, they are also using the train service.
Sometimes the Tripura government’s campaign against such contraband items is yielding results but as it appeared, most of the time the smugglers are giving a slip to the security agencies.
