Agartala, July 10: Tripura government decided to start procuring paddy directly from the farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) from July 11, a Minister said on Monday.
Food minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who reviewed the preparation for the procurement process through a video conference, said a target has been set to purchase 35,000 MT paddy this Rabi season.
He said, the process would commence at 40 paddy procurement centres across the state from July 11.
In a social media post, Chowdhury mentioned that a farmer can sell maximum 50 quintal paddy at MSP of Rs. 2040 per quintal.
He said, the state government procures paddy every year so that the farmers get profits. He also passed an instruction to the officials concerned so that the farmers don’t face any issues during the process.
Special Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department Saradindu Das, Food Director Nirmal Adhikary and Addl. Director Animesh Debbarma were present in the review meeting.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officials of Agriculture department from across the state joined the meeting in virtual mode.
