Agartala/Sonamura, March 26: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday directed the District Magistrates of different districts of the state to take prompt action against a section of businessmen, who are found selling tins at an abnormal price.
In his social media handle on Tuesday, CM Dr Saha said, “A few days ago a hailstorm damaged tin roofs of several houses in different parts of the state. Since then, some unscrupulous traders have been selling tins at much higher prices than the normal price. This has come to the notice of the government.”
“Necessary instructions have been given to the concerned DMs to take legal action as per ‘The Disaster Management Act’ in this case,” Dr Saha’s social media post reads.
He further added that the state government is committed to stand by the families affected by the hailstorm.
On the other hand, the concerned administration of the Sonamura sub-division on Tuesday inspected various shops to check the prices of tin being sold at higher prices and later they submitted the report with the higher authority. Later a news circulated across the Sonamura subdivision stating that legal action may be taken against the shopkeepers who are selling tin at higher prices.
Soon after this, a section of shopkeepers, worried about facing legal action by the administration, were found to have shut down their shops to stop selling tin. It was alleged that a major section of traders in Sonamura are selling tin at much higher prices taking an advantage out of the acute need of people, who were left distressed due to the recent hailstorm.
