Religious Conversion: A statement of Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding religious conversion has come to the fore. He says that conversion has been seen in many people of the country as well as in the tribal community. CM Sarma also said that this has also weakened the traditional beliefs and practices of the tribals.

Actually, Himanta Biswa Sarma attended an official function organized at Guwahati Medical College as the chief guest. He was addressing a function related to the distribution of grants to the Indigenous Tribal Faith and Culture Organization in Guwahati on Sunday (July 16).

According to NDTV, CM Sarma said that his government is committed to protecting the culture of tribals and should not take advantage of anyone to convert them to another religion by fraud.

During this, he said that the process of changing religion was seen among many communities as well as tribals in Assam. This trend has weakened their traditional beliefs and practices.

CM Sarma also said that many indigenous beliefs and cultures around the world have almost become extinct due to religious conversions.

No one should take advantage of our tribal communities and convert them to another religion through deceit. We have to protect their ancient faith & exercises.
