Delhi Rapid Rail Project: The Supreme Court has asked the Delhi government to give its contribution for the Rapid Rail Project in 2 weeks.  On non-payment of Rs 415 crore by the Delhi government, the court said, "You spent 1100 crores on advertisement in 3 years, but did not give your share for an important project related to common people. " Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Delhi government, told the court that the dues would be cleared in two weeks.

Rapid rail project has been started to connect Delhi with nearby cities. For this, apart from the central government, those states also have to contribute from where this train will pass.  The Delhi-Alwar transit system of this project will start from Delhi and reach Alwar in Rajasthan via Gurugram in Haryana. The Supreme Court is also monitoring the project due to the matter related to pollution in Delhi-NCR ‘MC Mehta vs Union of India’.

The details of the expenditure of 3 years were kept in the court
In the last hearing, the bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul was told that Delhi has not given its contribution citing lack of funds. On this, the court had said that the Delhi government spends a lot on advertisements. He should keep the details of 3 years’ expenditure on advertisement in the court.

Advertisement budget for 3 years is Rs 1073 crore
In today’s hearing, the court was informed that the advertisement budget of Delhi’s Kejriwal for the last 3 years is Rs 1073 crore. On this, the court said that the outstanding contribution of the Delhi government is almost as much as its advertising budget for one year. Justice Kaul asked whether the court would have to confiscate one year’s advertising budget of the Delhi government? On this, the counsel for the Delhi government said that due to some problems the payment could not be made. It will be repaid soon.
