Agartala June 13: After more than two years since over 10,000 teachers lost their jobs in Tripura, the state government has failed to address their demands till date.
On Tuesday, a large number of sacked teachers once again knocked the door of the state education department demanding a solution to their issue.
The terminated teachers submitted a memorandum to the Director of Education demanding restoration of services as per a recent verdict of the single bench of Tripura High Court.
“On May 3, 2023, the High Court Single Bench under Justice T Amarnath Goud gave a verdict that the termination letters provided to the teachers under WPC 334/2021 during the lockdown period on is completely illegal and also termed the memo issued by the state government on March 31, 2020 as wrongful”, said one the terminated teachers.
The agitators further said, “This means that we are still in service and our jobs have not gone”.
“We therefore have come to approach the higher authority of our department to comply with the High Court’s verdict and send us back to our schools at the earliest”.
The teachers further mentioned that 4 among the 10,323 teachers have already been appointed as teachers of the science department and therefore the number of teachers now stands at 10,319.
