JJ Hospital Strike: Resident doctors of Mumbai’s JJ Hospital are on strike. In fact, the resident doctors have made serious allegations against the former director and dean of the hospital, Dr. Tatyarao Lahane. Dr. Lahane is currently retired. Resident doctors allege that Dr Lahane used to misbehave with them.

Cleaning of Dr. Tatyarao Lahane

Dr. Tatyarao Lahane said, "When I came to JJ Hospital, earlier 30 to 40 eye patients used to come, now 300 to 400 patients come. Every type of eye treatment is done here. After PGI Chandigarh, JJ Hospital is the second hospital in the country, where most of the children’s eye operations are done. 24000 retinal surgeries have been done here in 11 years. Talking about all types of surgeries, 156000 surgeries have been done in 12 years. There we teach step by step to the resident doctor."

…so we feel bad

Doctors TP Lahane further said that 70 to 80 thousand patients come to JJ Hospital every year. After this, if someone says that our patient is stolen, then we feel bad, so we do not want to stay there, so we are all resigning. If it is a crime for us to call experts from outside, then action should be taken. Everything is taught here. I have never taught less to any student.

This strike has been started by the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) from Wednesday (May 31). The protesting doctors are also demanding a solution to the issue of non-payment of honorarium to the last two batches and non-payment of dues.
