Sonamura, Jun 20: Along with other parts of the state, traditional Rat Yatra was also celebrated at Melaghar with the participation of thousands of devotees on Tuesday.
The religious event adhered to traditional norms, commencing with the pulling of the chariot’s rope on Tuesday morning amid rains.
In the afternoon, a good number of devotees joined together to pull the chariot’s rope. Meanwhile, an elephant was seen pulling the Chariot of Lord Jagannath at Melaghar.
As per Hindu mythology, on a specific day in the month of Ashada each year, the three divine siblings, Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra embark on a chariot journey from their own house to their aunt’s residence. After seven days, they return home riding on the same chariot.
With the joint efforts of local volunteers, Police, TSR and CRPF personnel of Sonamura sub-division and the Melaghar police station, the celebration was smooth.
