Kumarghat Jun 29: A delegation led by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik rushed to Kumarghat on Thursday morning following the tragic incident of Ulto Rath Yatra at Kumarghat on Wednesday last.
The West Tripura District MP visited the hospital and residences of the affected victims of the incident.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattachajee, party general secretary Kishore Barman, local MLA Bhagaban Das among others accompanied Pratima Bhowmik as she met the deceased families and those undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Pratima and other party leaders assured all sorts of help to the dead and injured from the government and the party.
Notably, Unprecedented tragedy struck during ‘Ulto Rath’ in Kumarghat on Wednesday when at least seven persons including three children were killed and 16 others suffered serious burn injuries. The shocking incident occurred when the top of a huge iron-made chariot of Lord Jagannath touched the overhead high-tension transmission line.
Although the death toll is still seven, the death toll may increase, according to sources.
Complying to the Chief Minister’s announcement in this incident, on Thursday, the families of the victims were given Rs 10,000 by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
Meanwhile, after the autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the family one by one.
Later, the deceased were buried at the Kumarghat cremation ground.
An atmosphere of shock and grief prevails in the entire state centering the incident.
