Jairam Ramesh On PM Modi: Amidst the unrest in Manipur, now senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has raised questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by tweeting. He alleges that PM Modi has not yet appealed for peace in the state. Hundreds of people have died so far in the violence-hit state. Many houses, shops and churches have been burnt.

Jairam Ramesh said, "Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister when violence broke out in Manipur 22 years ago. At that time, on the demand of all the parties, an all-party meeting was called twice. The Prime Minister had appealed for peace. This time when Manipur is burning, the Prime Minister did not make any appeal for peace. Leaders of 10 parties of Manipur are waiting to meet the PM, but he is silent."

Demand to meet PM Modi

Jairam Ramesh further said, "Leaders of 10 parties Prime Minister on 10 June Narendra Modi to meet, but have not received time till date. We are expecting that the Prime Minister will meet the all-party delegation from Manipur before going abroad and hence all the leaders are staying back in Delhi."

State government also targeted

Jairam further said that this time violence is happening for 40 days but neither any statement nor any appeal has come from the Prime Minister. Today we have with us three such leaders who met Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001 in that all-party delegation. Among them are Ibobi Singh, who was the Chief Minister for 15 consecutive years and two former Speakers of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The state government has absolutely failed and it has become clear that there is no hope from the AAP state government.

‘Now the only hope is from the Prime Minister’

He said, "We appeal to the Prime Minister and also demand that you erase Nehru’s name, but learn something from Atal Bihari Vajpayee and meet this delegation. The state government has completely failed and the Home Minister’s visit there has not made any difference, now the hope is only from the Prime Minister." On the question of imposition of President’s Rule, he said that it depends on the Central Government what action they take in view of the situation.
