Agartala Jun 24: Complying with the call of TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma the indigenous people at different levels are episodically organizing massive protest demonstrations to press for the demand of Roman script for Kokborok language.
After similar protest rallies and demonstrations by various wings of TIPRA Motha, including the student wing TISF, Saturday, Tipra Womens’ Federation (TWF) also conducted Raj Bhavan Abhiyan in protest against the alleged forceful implementation of Bengali script for Kokborok language by the state government.
The women organization of Tripura’ s prime opposition party TIPRA Motha took out a rally and headed towards the Governors’ House in North Zone to submit a memorandum demanding immediate implantation of Roman script for Kokborok language.
However, the agitators were halted by multiple barricades in front of Circuit House were a large contingent of Police and other Security forces were deployed and later a delegation of leaders met the gubernatorial head and submitted the memorandum.
Talking with the reporters, one of the TWF leaders said, “Kokborok is the widely spoken language of the indigenous people of Tripura and we are the ones who are to decide in what script we shall read and write this language. We want to write in Roman script and nobody can force us to write in any other script”.
“This fight is for survival and existence and we want the Governor to immediately address the issue as the other concerned authorities including the chief minister, Tribal welfare minister and others are silent over the demand”, she added.
The agitators added TIPRA Motha will continue to demand Roman script for Kokborok language.
