Parliament Inauguration Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the new Parliament House in Delhi today i.e. Sunday (May 28). All preparations have been completed for the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony will start with worship from 7.30 am. PM Modi will dedicate the new Parliament building equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to the nation amid boycott by several opposition parties. 

Many opposition parties, including the Congress, have announced not to attend the ceremony. Opposition parties say that being the head of state, President Draupadi Murmu should inaugurate the new Parliament House. Before the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi had said that the new Parliament House will make every Indian proud. He also shared the video of the new campus. 

In the new parliament, the historical Scepter (Sengol) belonging to Tamil Nadu and made of silver and gold plated will be installed near the seat of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. This scepter, given to the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in August 1947 as a symbol of the transfer of power, was kept in the Nehru Gallery of the Allahabad Museum. On the occasion of the inauguration of the new Parliament House, the government will also release a commemorative coin of Rs 75. 

The built area of ​​the triangular four-storey Parliament House is 64,500 square meters. In the new parliament, seating arrangements have been made for 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 384 in the Rajya Sabha. While 1,272 members can sit in the Lok Sabha hall for the joint session. The existing building of Parliament is 96 years old, the construction of which was completed in 1927. Security has been beefed up in Lutyens’ Delhi ahead of the inauguration. 

Police has already issued a traffic advisory saying that New Delhi district will be treated as a controlled area for this period and entry of vehicles will be restricted. The new parliament building is located in a high security area. Police said that apart from deployment of additional security personnel, constant surveillance is being done through CCTV cameras.
