Agartala June 09: Voicing against the implementation of “National Education Policy 2020”, All India Democratic Student Organization (AIDSO), Tripura state unit organized a protest in front of the Shiksha Bhavan Agartala here on Friday.
Scattered protests by different organizations took part in different areas of the state as the chief minister Dr Manik Saha launched NEP 2020 amid a program at Town Hall in the capital city.
Speaking to the reporters from the protest spot, AIDSO, State secretary Ramprasad Acharjee said, “The National Education Policy 2020 is going to be disastrous from the students of Tripura where majority of them belong to middle and poor class families”.
Demanding that privatization and commercialization of education must be stopped, he said, “AIDSO has been fighting against NEP-2020 since the day it was announced during the times of Covid by the central government. Implementation of the policy will lead to a gradual worsening of the education system”.
He further said, “NEP 2020 calls itself national, but it has not been framed thinking about the entire education- fraternity of the country. A state in Tripura where lakhs of student belong to the poorer section won’t be able to afford education if the same is implemented”.
“Blended mode of leaching and learning process through online mode, eradication of classroom culture will deprive a large section of poor and underprivileged students who cannot afford a smart phone or laptop”, he added.
The agitators further said that control in education will violate the academic autonomy.
They further urged the chief minister not to introduce the ‘National Education Policy-2020’ in Tripura.
