Agartala, June 26: In successful drives towards building Neshamukt Tripura, the state police registered 245 cases and arrested more than 373 persons under NDPS Act in the current year till May.
Besides, narcotic items worth more than Rs. 70 crore have been seized and contraband items worth more than Rs. 12.5 crore have been destroyed during this period.
According to Tripura Police, in 2022, total 562 cases were registered, around 760 accused persons were arrested and narcotics items worth over Rs. 263 crore were seized.
As part of the drugs-free Tripura campaign, synergy checking at all Naka points on National Highway, State Highway and arterial roads is being carried out on regular basis to check drug trafficking. Intensive operations and frequent raids are being carried out at suspected places. Surprise special drives for seizure and destruction of cannabis are also being performed.
According to central agencies’ data, Tripura figure in the 2nd largest seizure in the North East and the highest destruction of narcotics items, an official press statement said.
Tripura Police appealed to the people to share any information pertaining to narcotics with the local police and on Toll Free No 112. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential.
