Jalgaon Mosuqe Controversy: The Juma Masjid Trust Committee has moved the Bombay High Court in a matter of ban on entry into the mosque. On a dispute regarding the mosque in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, the Collector has banned entry into the mosque. In the complaint on which the collector has given this decision, it was claimed that the design of the mosque is like that of a temple. Now the court will hear the matter on July 18.

According to the news of Hindustan Times, the head of the trust, Altaf Khan, in his petition has termed the Collector’s order as biased and illegal.  S.S.Kazi, the counsel for the petitioner trust, said that on July 11, the collector had handed over the keys of the mosque to the chief officer of the Ernadol Municipal Council while passing the order banning entry into the mosque. As per his order, now only two people are allowed to offer namaz there.

What is the whole matter?
According to the petition, Pandavas in Ernadol taluka The Sangharsh Samiti had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Collector in May, claiming that the structure of the monument resembles that of a temple and hence the possession of the Muslim community should be vacated. Describing the structure of the monument as illegal, a demand was also made by the committee to demolish it and to close the Madrasa running here.  After this, the date of hearing was fixed for June 27 by the collector on June 14, but the hearing could not be held due to the busyness of the collector. 

Why did the trust give Challenging the Collector’s order?
The petition states that on a later date the Trust sought time from the Collector to look into the complaint and file its reply, but was not given time for the same and The Collector of Jalgaon banned the entry of people into the mosque while passing the order on July 11 under sections 144 and 145 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Describing the collector’s order as biased and illegal, the trust said that it was not even given a chance to present its side. The petitioner has challenged this order and sought its quashing.

Maharashtra government has declared the mosque as a historical monument
Whereas, the trust claims That this mosque is decades old and the Government of Maharashtra has declared it as a historical monument. He said that it has been included in the list of protected monuments. The trust also said that so far no objection has been raised by the Archaeological Department or the state government.
