This is the twelfth and last month of the Islamic calendar. This month holds significance for Muslims all over the world because it is the month in which the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca takes place and Eid al-Azha i.e. Bakrid is celebrated on the tenth day of this month. The moon of Eid al-Adha was sighted in Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia on Sunday itself. Bakrid will be celebrated in Gulf countries on June 28.

It is called the festival of sacrifice

Why is Bakrid celebrated?

According to Islamic belief, Hazrat Ibrahim was going to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail on this day in the path of God, then Allah gave life to his son, in whose memory this festival is celebrated. Muslims from all over the world gather in Mecca Saudi Arabia in this month to perform Hajj.

Special care is taken of the poor on Bakrid. There are three parts of the sacrifice given on Bakrid. Out of this, one part is given for oneself and the remaining two parts are given to one’s near and dear ones and the poor and needy.
