Agartala, July 09: A 47-year-old man was killed in an elephant attack at Malakar Basti area in Uttar Maharani under Kalyanpur police station of Tripura on Sunday evening.
The deceased- Sujit Barman, resident of Santinagar village in Teliamura, faced the attack of the jumbo when he was returning home along with his friend on a motorcycle.
The pillion rider of the bike managed to escape the scene but Barman, the bike rider, died on the spot after being attacked by the wild elephant.
Kalyanpur and Teliamura police reached the spot soon after the incident and sent the body to Teliamura sub-divisional hospital.
The incident sparked off strong resentment among the local villagers. They alleged that the Forest office was not taking any effective measure to save human lives and properties from elephant attack.
Minister for Janajati Welfare Bikas Debbarma expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family and assured financial support.
