Inter Faith Marriage: A Muslim-turned-Hindu man has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking custody of his wife. Under the habeas corpus petition, the man has alleged that the wife was allegedly forcibly and illegally kept by her family members.

The Bombay High Court bench has directed the Naya Nagar police station on Mira Road to produce the girl on June 20. Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Gauri Godse gave these directions on a petition filed by a person named Sahil Chaudhary.

Changed Religion to Marry Hindu Girl
According to India Today report, in the petition Sahil, who was earlier Faiz Ansari, met Maneka (name changed) in 2017 . Both were studying in the same college. Shortly afterwards the couple got married. However, the girl’s family members were not ready for this marriage. After which Sahil became a Hindu.

According to the report, both of them got married on 26 February 2022 in a temple in Bandra. On July 8, 2022, it was also registered with the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. According to the petition, Sahil is a resident of Mumbai, because of which the couple had to live separately after marriage.

Separated for about a year after marriage
On 8 February 2023, Maneka left her father’s house and started living with Sahil. After this Maneka’s father filed a missing complaint. On which the couple was called to the police station. Where Maneka herself wrote that she lives with her husband and is not missing.

The girl’s father sent a legal notice
According to the petition, Sahil then came to know that the girl had been taken to her home in Rajasthan. On 18 March 2023, Sahil received a legal notice from Maneka’s lawyer, stating that their marriage was not valid, as Sahil had not converted to Hinduism properly. A notice has also been sent to the BMC asking them to cancel the registration of their marriage.

It has been claimed in the petition that Maneka’s family members want her to get married elsewhere. After which the court has issued instructions to Mira Road Police to produce Maneka on June 20.
