Gunupur Ex MLA Ramamurthy Gomanga: The court on Tuesday (June 27) sentenced a former MLA from Odisha to life imprisonment after convicting him for killing his wife. The Special Court of Additional District Judge (ADJ-III) in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar has sentenced former MLA Ramamurthy Gomanga to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife Sasirekha in 1995.

Ramamurthy Gomanga was convicted on 24 June under section 302 (murder) and section 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Public prosecutor Rashmi Ranjan Brahma said that apart from life imprisonment, Special Court Justice Sashmita Padhi also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the former Gunupur MLA under various sections.

The half-burnt body was found in the bathroom
On the basis of statements of 11 witnesses and 15 documents related to this murder case, Ramamurthy Gomanga was convicted. According to the prosecution, Shasirekha’s half-burnt body was recovered from the bathroom of Gomanga’s official residence here on August 29, 1995.

MLA on BJP ticket in 2000 

The Kharvel Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar initially registered a case of unnatural death, but later registered a case of murder as the investigation indicated murder. Ramamurthy became an MLA in 1995 on a Janata Dal ticket from Gomanga Gunupur assembly constituency. Then in 2000 he became MLA from the same seat on BJP ticket, but lost to Congress candidate Hema Gomanga in 2004 assembly elections. Took. However, Ramamurthy Gomanga left the party in 2014 after being denied ticket from BJD.
