Agartala July 13: A Leather Training Institute at Hrishi Colony in Agartala is not functioning, at present.
Hrishi Colony is believed to be the 1st slum in Tripura. Around 2000 persons live in colony and most of them are cobblers.
To provide training and enhance skills to the locals, a Leather Training Institute was set up by late CPIM leader and former Minister Anil Sarkar.
However, the institute remained shut for the last several years.
On the last day of ongoing Budget session in Tripura Assembly, CPIM MLA Ramu Das raised the issue and wanted to know about Government plan to revive the institute.
In reply concerned Minister Sudhangshu Das said, local people for whom the institute was set up are not joining the institute to get trainings.
“No one is coming to the institute to get trainings despite government’s sustained efforts. For this reason, the institute remains shut. I appeal to local MLA Ramu Das to take initiative so that residents of the Hrishi Colony avail of the benefit of the institute”, Shudhangshu Das said.
