Congress on Manipur Violence: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Friday (July 7) asked whether External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar would summon Eric Garcetti and say this on the alleged remarks of the US Ambassador regarding the situation in Manipur. That America has no role in Manipur’s case.

Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that the issue of Manipur is India’s internal challenge and it has to be dealt with sensitively and firmly by the people of India.

He tweeted and asked, ‘‘Will External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar summon the US ambassador and tell him in clear words that America has no role in the Manipur issue? The responsibility to bring back peace and harmony in Manipur rests exclusively with the Central Government, State Government, civil society and political parties of the State.’’

Jairam Ramesh further said, ‘‘Prime Minister is silent and Home Minister is ineffective. It does not mean that there is any opportunity for any other country here. This is India’s challenge and we Indians have to deal with it with sensitivity and determination.’’

What did Ambassador Gorsetti say?
According to news agency PTI, Garcetti said in Kolkata on Thursday (July 6) that the violence and killings in Manipur were a ‘humanitarian concern’ and if asked by America, it is ready to cooperate with India to deal with the situation.
