Manipur Violence: India has issued its statement on Wednesday (July 12) amid reports that the situation in Manipur is now being discussed in the European Parliament. India said that we have made it clear to the EU MPs that this is completely India’s internal matter, so they should keep this in mind during the discussion.
The situation in Manipur has been discussed in the European Union based in Brussels and it will be discussed on Wednesday. Talking to the press in this matter, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said that it has been made clear to the MPs associated with it in the EU that it is completely an internal matter of India.
‘This is our personal matter’
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that the European Parliament is going to discuss Manipur today. Our foreign secretary has told the Europeans that this is India’s internal matter. This is definitely an internal matter of India on which the Prime Minister is still silent and no all-party delegation has visited Manipur with the blessings of the Prime Minister.
Jairam Ramesh sarcastically said that there is no guarantee that he (PM Modi) would actually participate and speak in the debate on Manipur even if it is allowed to be debated in our Parliament.
Violent clashes are taking place in Manipur for the last two months. Opposition parties allege that the government has not been able to control the incidents of violence in the state. The Manipur government on Monday (July 10) told the Supreme Court that it has tried its best to protect the safety and rights of all citizens irrespective of caste, creed, religion, tribe, community etc. in the violence-hit state.
Supreme Court refused to interfere
A tribal group had filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the situation in Manipur. During the hearing of this petition in the Supreme Court, the Chief Secretary of the state submitted the report related to law and order in the state to the Chief Justice. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha took this suggestion on record. After listening to both the sides, the Supreme Court said that it will not give any instructions to any party in this matter as doing so could vitiate the atmosphere there.
At the same time, the Supreme Court appealed to the people of Manipur and said that all parties should shun the path of violence and move forward on the path of peace.
