India-China: WMCC meeting between India and China was held once again on Wednesday (May 30) to reduce tension on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). It was decided in the meeting that soon the 19th round of military commander level talks will be held. During this, proposals for disengagement along the LAC as well as in other friction points were also discussed in a clear and open manner.

After the Galvan Valley conflict on LAC on June 15, several rounds of meetings have been held so far in the exercise of reducing border tension. After the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that restoration of peace and tranquility would create conditions for normalization of bilateral relations and for this purpose both sides agreed to hold the next round of military talks at the earliest.

Agreement reached on military and diplomatic discussions

The meeting took place under the framework of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China. Both sides reviewed the situation along the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border areas and discussed proposals for an open disengagement in the remaining areas. It is being told that both sides have agreed to continue discussions through military and diplomatic channels.

18th round meeting was held in April

Earlier, India and China held the 18th round of Corps Commander level talks in April to resolve the remaining disputed issues of eastern Ladakh. The standoff started in eastern Ladakh on May 5, 2020 after a violent clash between the soldiers of the two countries. After this, several rounds of military and diplomatic level meetings have taken place between the two countries.
