Supreme Court On Domestic Violence: The Supreme Court will hear on July 3 the petition demanding a National Commission for Men. Advocate Mahesh Kumar Tiwari had filed this petition. It was said in the petition that there is an increase in the cases of suicide among married men. The data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has been given in the petition.

According to the Supreme Court website, Justice Suryakant and Justice Dipankar Dutta’s bench has decided to hear the petition on Monday (July 3). Petitioner Mahesh Kumar Tiwari, in his petition, has cited the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data published in 2021 regarding deaths in the country.

Citing NCRB data, the petition said, "In the year 2021, due to family problems, about 33.2 percent men and 4.8 percent men ended their lives due to marriage related reasons." The petition has also sought a direction to the National Human Rights Commission to deal with the issue of suicide by married men and to act on the complaints of men who are victims of domestic violence.

Demand for immediate acceptance of complaints of men 

In the petition, the center has also been requested to direct the police department through the Ministry of Home Affairs that the complaints of men who are victims of domestic violence should be accepted immediately. The petition sought to issue a direction/recommendation to the Law Commission of India to conduct research on the issue of suicides of married men suffering from domestic violence or family problems and marriage related issues and necessary report to constitute a national like forum Prepare.
