Agartala June 10: Forest Food Festival- 2023 was held at capital city’s Heritage Park under the initiative of Forest Department.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests KS Shetty inaugurated the program here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the food festival, he said that the forest department has organized this kind of festival with the aim of increasing the income of the people.
“The government has taken initiatives to link the lifestyle and food habits of the people with tourism. Forest food is popular only among the people of the state but people outside are unaware of the dishes and Tripuri culture as well”, he said.
The main objective of this festival is to bring forest food into the mainstream of society. Moreover, this festival will also help to increase the income of members of Self-Help Groups and Joint Forest Management Committees, he added.
Addressing the occasion, Additional Chief Conservator of Forests K Shyamal said that forest food is showing direction in improving the standard of living of the people.
Member Secretary of Tripura Biodiversity Board, Praveen Agarwal delivered the welcome speech at the inaugural function.
Various self-help groups, joint forest management committees and various organizations of the tribal sector and private initiatives have opened food stalls during the festival.
Drama and cultural programs on forest awareness were performed on the occasion.
