Agartala Jul 10: Several important topics that needs immediate attention were raised in the assembly on the first day of Budget Session 2023-24, but because the ruling party would fall into trouble on discussing them, they suspended me for the entire session, said Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman.

The Congress MLA was addressing a 4-hour sit-in protest demonstration organized by the Pradesh Congress women wing at Orient Chowmani premises of the capital city here on Monday.

The protest organized against rampant drug abuse across the state and increased number of incidents of women related crimes was inaugurated in presence of Tripura Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman among other leaders.

Addressing the protest program, Roy Barman said, “It is the opposition that always speaks in favour of the people and their rights. While doing my dusty as an opposition, I raised the topics of JRBT recruitment, results and recruitment of STGT 2022 examination, unemployment, prevailing situation of black market and hiked prices of essential commodities and vegetables among others. And as the ruling party representatives won’t be able to give proper replies on these important issues, they thought of suspending me for the entire session”.

“The situation where I was not even allowed to put forth my words. I was illegally suspended for the entire session for using ‘unparliamentary’ words against the treasury bench members, which is not true at all”, said Barman.

Talking about the issues of protest, Barman said, “The BJP established themselves in the soil of Tripura by calling out the slogan of ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ but in reality, it is the exact opposite, ‘Nesha Jukt Tripura’. Drugs are entering the state through Myanmar, drugs are smuggled to other states and bordering countries like Bangladesh, a large section of youths are addicted to these toxic substances, but the government and the administration is playing the role of mute spectator”.

“Police are not able to arrest the culprits, and in some cases if they are doing duties, those accused persons are released without action for being BJP members or leaders”, he said.

“In Kamalpur, a BJP leader was caught with drugs red-handed, but no action was taken against him. Whatever be the type of crime, if you are a supporter or member of the ruling party, there will be no action against you”, alleged Barman.

Roy Barman further said that because of rampant drug abuse across the state of Tripura, future of youths is going towards darkness, they are committing various crimes like thefts to arrange money for drugs, they are turning violent, attacking women at homes for money. And all these is because the administration is not able to stop the drug trafficking.

“Women related crimes have increased unprecedentedly, at least 29 such cases are reported at police stations every month in the state”, said the Congress MLA.

Thanking the state government and the chief minister for making the decision of compulsory PRTC for jobs in Tripura, Sudip Roy Barman said, “I welcome the decision made by the government but at the same time I would like to draw its attention that these days fake PRTC are made by spending money and therefore for state government jobs, Ration Card and knowledge of Kokborok and Bengali language must be made compulsory”.

Stating that ‘Congress is India and India is Congress’, Roy Barman said, “I has to bow down my head a little and I could easily stay in the BJP party and with the government, but when I saw how people were being cheated how injustice to the masses was going on, I could not bear it and go ahead with the party”.

The Congress MLA further urged the common people to open their eyes and think wisely and support the Congress for bringing in real changes and development of the state.
