‘Comments against PM irresponsible, but not sedition’, observes Karnataka High Court -aabtak24

Karnataka High Court: The Karnataka High Court quashed the sedition case against the school management in a case of comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The High Court said that the words spoken against the PM were derogatory and irresponsible, but it is not sedition. High Justice Hemant Chandangoudar quashed the FIR lodged at New Town police station against Shaheen School Management Bidar’s Alauddin, Abdul Khaliq, Mohd Bilal Inamdar and Mohd Mahtab.

Karnataka High Court says that a citizen has the right to criticize or comment on the steps taken by the government and its officials, but he should not incite people to violence against the government or with the intention of creating public disorder.  

What is the whole matter

Actually, in the year 2020, in Shaheen School of Bidar district in Karnataka, children had enacted a play regarding CAA and NRC. After this, it was alleged that the school was spreading negative things by working against the country. At the same time, the Shaheen Group of Institution rejected this claim saying that the police used to come to the school every day and treat the children like traitors.

It was also alleged that the play performed on the stage by class 4 students against the CAA Act was of a communal nature. It was claimed that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this regard, Nilesh Rakeshyala had registered a case under sections 504, 505 (2), 124 (A) and 153 (A) of the IPC at Bidar police station
