Teesta Setalvad Case: Social activist Teesta Setalvad has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court granted him regular bail on Wednesday (July 19). With this, the Supreme Court ordered that Setalvad make no effort to influence the witnesses in the case and stay away from them.

Supreme Court told why bail should be given

On July 1, the Gujarat High Court canceled Teesta’s regular bail and asked her to surrender. The Supreme Court had stayed it on the same day and has now granted him regular bail on Wednesday. The Supreme Court said that since the charge sheet has been filed and her (Setalvad) custodial interrogation has been completed, she should be granted bail.

Supreme Court bench said that Setalvad will be considered on continuous bail from September 2, 2022. Also said that she will not influence any witness. The Court said that If she does so (influencing the witness), the prosecution can directly approach the Supreme Court to cancel the bail.

The arrest happened last year

On June 25, 2022, Teesta was arrested by the Gujarat Police. On September 2, 2022, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail. The Supreme Court had asked Teesta to approach the lower court or the Gujarat High Court for regular bail. At the same time, the Gujarat High Court refused to grant regular bail to Teesta in view of the evidence presented by the police. The police had told that Teesta presented fabricated evidence in the court to destabilize the then state government and also got witnesses to file false affidavits.
