West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2023: So far 12 people have lost their lives in the violence during the Panchayat elections in West Bengal on Saturday (July 8). Bengal State Election Commissioner (SEC) Rajiv Sinha on Saturday promised to look into complaints of vote-tampering and take a decision on re-polling in violence-hit places after receiving reports from supervisors and returning officers.

Rajeev Sinha said, "The maximum number of complaints of incidents of violence during the day’s polling came from four districts and all these districts will be taken into account while reviewing the election process. Meanwhile, the SEC also faced a lot of criticism from various political parties.

Decision on re-polling will be on July 9

Sinha says that the decision on re-polling will be taken on Sunday (July 9) when the Supervisor and Returning Officer will scrutinize and review the polling process. They said, "I am getting information about violence and clashes since last night. Calls were made directly to me and to the control room phone numbers on these incidents."

Most violent incidents in these districts

Sinha told news agency PTI, "On Saturday, maximum number of such incidents were reported from three to four districts like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Murshidabad district. The SEC received 1,300 complaints from Barasat, including incidents of some people running away with ballot boxes. Tomorrow there will be a detailed investigation in the matter. Re-polling will be held in those booths where maximum violence took place and where polling was not done or stopped."
