Manipur Violence Update: Amid ongoing violence in Manipur, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is going to visit the state. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal tweeted on Tuesday (June 27) that Rahul Gandhi would be visiting Manipur on June 29-30. During his visit, he would visit relief camps and interact with civil society representatives in Imphal and Churachandpur. Will talk.
Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted that there is news that finally the Home Minister (Amit Shah) has spoken to Prime Minister Modi on Manipur. For the last 55 days Modi ji did not say a word on Manipur. If Modi ji really thinks anything about Manipur, then first of all sack your Chief Minister. Seize weapons from militant organizations and anti-social elements. Initiate dialogue with all parties and find a common political path.
Earlier, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had targeted the central government and alleged that on the one hand the northeastern states are burning and on the other hand Prime Minister Modi is silent, Home Minister Amit Shah is not doing anything. The Congress leader said that even a minute of Biren Singh’s stay on the post of Chief Minister is a wasted minute in efforts to bring peace in Manipur and start the reconciliation process. There is really no point in him continuing as chief minister.
It is worth mentioning that in the beginning of May, more than 100 people have died in the ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur. The clashes began after a tribal solidarity march was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in Manipur. During this, houses of several ministers of the state government were also torched.
