Amarnath Yatra Update: Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday (July 9). He took an update about the suspended Amarnath Yatra due to heavy rains. The Union Home Minister had a telephonic conversation with Sinha. In fact, the annual Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on both the routes Baltal (Ganderbal district) and Nunwan (Pahalgam district) due to bad weather.
Talked to CM of Punjab-Himachal as well
With this, Amit Shah, CM of Punjab Bhagwant Mann and offered help by talking to Himachal CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu over the phone. The Home Minister said that there are NDRF teams in both the states, but despite that, more teams can be deployed if necessary.
The journey started on this route
Due to the rains, there were many landslides in the 270 km long route. However, travel on the Pahalgam route resumed this afternoon following improvement in weather conditions. Officials said travel on the other route, Baltal, has still not resumed.

Yatra will end on August 31
The holy pilgrimage, situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the South Kashmir Himalayas, began on July 1 and will conclude on August 31. This prompted the Home Minister to tweet, lauding the work of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel for providing safe Amarnath Yatra to every pilgrim.
