Agartala July 01: Officials of Sadar District Administration and Food Department on Saturday launched a surprise raid and seized at least eight gas cylinders stored illegally.
In a bid to prevent black market and illegal price hike of LPG gas and essential commodities, team of administrative officials have started checks at all parts of the district to nab people involved in illegal sale of LPG cylinders in the black market.
Saturday, the team raided various restaurants and hotels in Amtali and Hapania area. While taking a stock of the possession of domestic LPG cylinders, the officials also ensured if the hotels are selling hygienic food items.
Speaking to the reporters, one of the officials said, “We have visited 20-25 hotels, restaurants in the area and have seized 8 cylinders so far”.
“Our motto is to prevent the usage of domestic gas cylinders in hotels and restaurants as they require to use commercial gas for cooking purposes as per guidelines”, he said.
Talking about hiked prices of essentials, the officials said, “Prices of commodities like onions, potatoes etc. are under control. But as common people buy them from retailers who in turn buy them from stockist the price might be a slightly more, but that too is under control as of now”.
He however said that the prices of vegetables are high these days and necessary steps will be taken in this regard.
The officials further said that such raids will continue in near days.
