Wrestlers Police Custody: The police on Sunday (May 28) detained wrestlers protesting against the outgoing President of the Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. . Among them women wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Sangeeta Phogat and Vinesh Phogat have been released while Bajrang Punia is still in police custody. All the wrestlers were kept at different places by the police.

1. On this action of Delhi Police, the wrestlers say that they were also manhandled. At the same time, Sakshi Malik and Sangeeta Phogat clearly said that this movement is not over yet. Sakshi Malik said, “After being released from police custody, we will start our Satyagraha back at Jantar Mantar. In this country, now there will be Satyagraha of women wrestlers, not dictatorship.”  

2. Farmer organizations supporting the performance of the wrestlers have said to take this fight forward. Farmers led by farmer leader Rakesh Tikait demonstrated at Ghazipur border connecting Uttar Pradesh with Delhi.

3. However, the farmers ended this demonstration on Sunday (May 28) evening. Rakesh Tikait said that today’s protest is over, now a meeting will be held for a few days and further decision will be taken.

At the same time, Delhi Police clarified its stand on this matter and said that those who tried to go ahead by breaking the barricade were stopped and they were removed from there and taken to another place. According to news agency PTI, Delhi Police detained Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia on charges of violating law and order.

5. Political agitation was also seen regarding this whole matter. The farmer leader said that this demonstration will continue until the wrestlers are released. On the other hand, the opposition parties fiercely attacked the central government and the Delhi Police for taking the wrestlers into custody.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “The right to inaugurate the new parliament was taken away from the President, women players were beaten on the streets with dictatorial force! 3 lies of BJP-RSS rulers are now exposed in front of the country. First- democracy, second- nationalism, third- save daughter. Remember Modi ji, democracy does not run only by buildings, but by the voice of the people.”

7. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while supporting the wrestlers, attacked the Center over the inauguration of the new Parliament building, saying, "new parliament building if it cannot give justice to the protesting wrestlers."

8. Rahul Gandhi said, "The coronation is over – the ‘arrogant king’ is crushing the voice of the public on the streets."

9. Whereas, Priyanka Gandhi said, "The medals on the chest of the players are the pride of our country. With those medals, the honor of the country increases due to the hard work of the players. The arrogance of the BJP government has increased so much that the government is mercilessly trampling the voices of our women players under their boots."

10. CM Mamta wrote on Twitter, “I strongly condemn the way Delhi Police assaulted Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and other wrestlers. It is shameful that our champions are treated like this. Democracy is in tolerance but autocratic forces thrive on intolerance and suppressing dissent. I demand that the wrestlers be released from police custody immediately. I stand with the wrestlers.”
