Agartala, July 14: The former MLA of the BJP party Dr. Dilip Das on Friday demanded the government to establish a degree college under his assembly constituency of Barjala.
The MLA was speaking in a function organised to celebrate the upgradation of Patunagar Madhyamik school into Higher Secondary.
He said, “The present government is committed to ensure quality education for all and as part of this government is upgrading the education sector of the state on priority basis. We do not need to demand anything from the government as the government is working as per the proper planning to upgrade the education sector.”
“Most of the residents in Barjala assembly constituency belong to a poor family and the students of those poor families need to spend a hefty amount to travel to the colleges either in Mohanpur or other parts. Following this, we demanded the former and the present education minister to find the feasibility of establishing a degree college here,” he told reporters.
On the other hand, the concerned authority of the Potunagar school said that the government had upgraded at least 5 schools into higher secondary under West district and as part of this the Potunagar Madhyamik school has been upgraded into higher secondary.
According to the school authority, the newly upgraded Potunagar HS school started its journey with Arts stream and 5 post-graduate teachers and they had already joined the school. There is a plan to include the science and commerce stream as well in the school.
