Agartala, June 30: Two days after the heart-wrenching incident of Kumarghat, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) finally issued a statement on Friday amid immense pressure and wide condemnation from the common people.
In a press statement co-president of ISKCON Agartala- Sridham Govinda Das said the incident that occurred during Ulto Rath Yatra at Kumarghat on June 28 last is ‘unfortunate and painful’.
As the Rath came in contact with a high-voltage electric wire, some of the devotees were electrocuted—seven people including three children died on the spot and twenty other sustained injuries. The health condition of six among the 20 injured persons is stated to be critical, according to the press statement.
The ISKCON Agartala’s co-president also announced that free education (up to Class-XII) would be ensured for the children of deceased persons at Bhaktivedanta National School, Bamutia. Besides, a plan is under consideration for providing financial assistance to the deceased’s families.
The ISKCON Agartala, according to the press statement, would also arrange free accommodation and Prasad (three times) for the families of the injured persons undergoing treatment in GB hospital for the sake of their good health.
