Gandacherra June 22: Demanding immediate repair of a dilapidated road of about 8 km from Narayanpur Mog Para Chowmani to New Dalapati Para, villagers blocked the road in protest on Thursday morning.
Protesting villagers said that they have been repeatedly urging the authorities of the Public Works Department in verbal and writing for repair of the road for a long time, but the concerned authorities did not pay any attention to their long-standing demand.
At last, the resented villagers blocked the Gandacherra-Raishyabari road near the Gandacherra SDM Office on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a large police force of Gandacherra Police Station along with Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department, rushed there after receiving the information of blockade.
Although the officials tried to convince the agitating villagers, they refused to listen and demanded that the work must commence from Thursday itself.
“We have been urging the authorities for repair of the road that has turned into a death trap for the common people since long time, but today we won’t lift our blockade until they start the carpeting work of the road from today itself”, said one of the protesting villagers.
Later, after receiving specific assurances the protestors lifted the blockade.
The SDM and PWD officials said that the work of road repair will be done at the earliest.
