Dharmanagar Jun 23: Concerned with the spread of various other diseases such as Hepatitis, Tuberculosis and Malaria apart from AIDS, the Health Department has taken up several initiatives to reach out to the common masses.
The diseases being especially noticed among jail inmates, the health department is conducting screening tests in different parts of the state.
In view of this, a press conference was organized at the Dharmanagar North District Hospital.
BDO Dr. Rahul Purkayastha and in-charge doctor Dr. Sunetra Sharma were present in the press conference on behalf of the Health Department.
According to reports, North Tripura district has a total of 851 HIV infected patients. There are two sub-jails in the North District, Dharmanagar has 104 affected persons and Kanchanpur has 12 inmates.
The screening test will be inaugurated on June 26 by North District president Bhavatosh Das at Dharmanagar Jail.
Two NGOs Ananya Samajsevi Sangathan and Kalyani Samajsevi Sangathan will come forward for this screening test from July 5, informed the Health Department.
Notably, the number of HIV-infected patients is increasing at a rapid pace in the north district of the state only because of the use of drugs.
Government and non-governmental social organizations are working hard to stop the drug menace and protect youths from HIV infection.
However, no satisfactory results have been obtained so far.
