Agartala June 21: Around 500 youths under the banner of Tripura Indigenous Students Federation (TISF), a student wing of TIPRA Motha on Wednesday held Raj Bhavan Abhiyan pressing for the long-term demand of Roman script for Kokborok language.
At the initial stage of the protest march towards the Raj Bhavan, the youths gathered at the Vivekananda Maidan and protested for long hours.
However, the agitators were later stopped by a large contingent of police and other security forces at the Circuit House area.
Later, a delegation of five TISF leaders met the Governor and placed their demand for the introduction of Roman script for the Kokborok language.
Talking to the media persons, one of the TISF leaders said, “It has been a long time that the Tiprasa community has been demanding a Roman script for the Kokborok language. It is not the demand of a few hundred students who have gathered here but the demand of 15 lakh Tiprasa people”.
“Kokborok is our language and we are the ones to decide in what script we are comfortable”, he added.
The agitators further alleged that all northeastern states have their own identical languages that have been given proper value but in Tripura the Tiprasa language is lagging behind.
Raising the slogans like; ‘Long Live Kokborok”, “Die For Kokborok”, “No solution No Rest”, “Our Language Our Right”, the agitating youths demanded the Governor of the state to look into the matter and comply with their demand.
The TISF supporters warned to stage a larger movement and also approach the Prime Minister in near days if their demand is not met at the earliest.
