Agartala June 21: The Union Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and West Tripura MP Pratima Bhowmik on Monday exchanged views with the Anganwadi workers and Asha workers at a program organized under the initiative of BJP Ramnagar Mandal commemorating the nine glorious years of Modi government in the Centre.

Addressing the occasion, Pratima Bhowmik appreciated their efforts while mentioning that the state and central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in turn are working towards the welfare of the Anganwadi and Asha workers.

“ASHA and Anganwadi work have increased the mobility and autonomy of the women”, said Bhowmik.

Bhowmik further appreciated the robust efforts of the Anganwadi and ASHA workers during the times of lockdown when these women became the connecting links between the community and the state machinery despite fear of the virus.

Speaking about the allegations raised against the government for taking the women workers as granted and more work on less honorarium, the MoS said, “In the year 2018 the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the doubling incentives given by the Union Government to the ASHA workers. Besides, all the ASHA workers and the helpers were provided free insurance under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Prime Minister Suraksha Bima Yojana”.

“The Prime Minister also announced a significant hike in the honorarium given to Anganwadi workers. Those receiving Rs 3000 were provided a hike of Rs 1500 and those who were receiving Rs 2200 got Rs 3500. Also, the helpers’ honorarium was increased from Rs 1500 to Rs 2250”, she added.

The West Tripura MP however admitted to the fact that considering the present day’s where prices of essential commodities are high, the honorarium of the Anganwadi and ASHA workers are comparatively less.

As she sought support from the women workers in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha Polls, Pratima assured the workers of far better living in the near days.

Later, the MP Pratima Bhowmik also took part in a Lavarthi Sammelan in Ramnagar assembly constituency in presence of MLA Surajit Dutta among others.

Addressing the program, Bhowmik said, “Not only the basic necessities like ‘Roti, Kapra, Makan’ but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given much more to the people of India as well as to the state of Tripura in his nine years of governance”.

She urged the party leaders, members and supporters to pledge to ensure victory in the two Lok Sabha seats of Tripura with majority of votes as a gift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
