Agartala, June 18: Six ganja smugglers were nabbed from a train in Teliamura sub-division in Khowai district of Tripura on Sunday.
The six persons- Jitu Debbarma (local supplier), Ashok Mandal, Md. Aktes, Venkat Shah, Amit Kumar and Devendra Kumar of Bihar were caught red handed while fitting ganja on the roof of toilet in Rani Kamalabati Express by a special team under the guidance of IPF Agartala.
A consignment of 48 kg ganja packed for concealment in water tanks of the coach was seized from the possession of the smugglers.
During interrogation, they revealed that the five persons from Bihar arrived at Teliamura station and planned to conceal ganja in the water tank of the toilet in the running train before reaching Agartala railway station. They had a plan to deboard from the train after informing their receiver at the destination.
But, they could not escape the strong vigil. They along with the seized ganja were handed over to GRP unit, Teliamura for further action.
Based on the media reports on transportation of ganja consignments through trains, the concerned security agencies strengthened their vigil in all the railway stations. They are also getting results.
However, local sources said, Agartala railway station still remained a safe haven for the ganja and drugs smugglers due to lackadaisical attitude of railway police.
Local sources said, constant monitoring and checking is needed in Agartala railway station to prevent transportation of ganja/ drugs consignments.
